Beloved husband, brother, father and friend. A resident of Golden Valley, he died at 77 years of age peacefully at Methodist Hospital, surrounded by loving family and friends. Survived by his beloved wife Doris of fifty-two years; sons Kevin and Keith (Annette and grandchildren Joe and Jack) and daughter Deana (Allen Klein). Survived by his brothers, Forest “Woody”, and John; and sisters Dolores “Dee”, Kathleen “Kate”, Susan and Maureen “Reeny”; and other relatives and friends. Following his service in the U.S. Army in Korea and after his subsequent college education, he was employed by Northern Ordinance, moved on to Control Data Corporation, and later retired as a senior mechanical design engineer from Seagate, Inc., Bloomington after 36 years of total service. Dave’s humor was legendary. He enjoyed good health until 2006 when he had open heart surgery. He maintained an active lifestyle until about six months ago. Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, 10 AM at St. Joseph’s Parish Center, 8701 36th Ave. N., New Hope. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. HOPKINS, WILLIAM A.

William A. “Hoppy” Hopkins, age 79 of Golden Valley, beloved father and grandfather passed peacefully away the evening of November 23, 2009. Born and raised on a farm outside of Chippewa Falls, WI. and graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1948. Wanting to see the world he enlisted in the Air Force on August 5th, 1948 and was assigned to the Third Rescue Squardron as a Radio Dispatcher. Medically retired February 28th, 1951 as a Corporal. He then enrolled in Dunwoody Technical College for electronics and graduated 1955 and was hired by AT & T as a technician. Member of the Telco Credit Union (now Top Line) and served on the supervisory committee for twenty plus years. Retired from AT & T in 1985 after thirty years. Joined the Freemasons, May 13th, 1952, joined the Scottish Rite eaarning his 32-degree. He was accepted as a Noble of the Mystic Shrine on May 11th, 1956 and was a founding member of the Zurah Bagpipe band. As a snare drummer, he entertained in parades and special events for thirty five years. He was a member of the Chester Bird American Legion Post #523 ~ also a current trustee and past post commander of the Golden Valley VFW Post 7051. Hoppy was a self taught stock whiz, he loved the Andy Capp cartoon, his bulldogs, and his 1929 Ford Model A. He traveled to exotic places,but his favorite retreat was his cabin, to hunt and fish. Memorial service, Wednesday, December 2, 2009 ~ 5:30 PM at the GILL BROTHERS NEW HOPE CHAPEL, 7300 42ND Avenue North, with visitation beginning at 4:00 PM. A private interment for William and Sandy will be held at Fort Snelling. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, the Masonic Center Cancer Fund, or the Scottish Rite Childhood Language Disorder Clinics of Minnesota, Inc. Carlin, Mary Patricia age 84 of Minneapolis died November 18, 2009. Pat had a beautiful smile and many friends. She graduated from Annunciation Grade School, Washburn High School and the University of Minnesota, where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She also received her Master’s in Education from the University. She retired after 30 years of teaching 2nd grade at Mattock’s Elementary and Homecroft Schools in St. Paul. Prior to her teaching career she worked at the Peavy Company as an Executive Secretary. She loved to play tennis, horseback riding, piano, figure skating and ice dancing. Pat was also very active in the Young Republican’s and the League of Catholic Woman. She loved people and had met many dignitaries over the years. Preceded in death by parents, Leo & Agnes Carlin and brother, Thomas Leo Carlin. Survived by sister, Lucia (Jim) Seidel; brother, Bing (Emily); sister-in-law Verle Carlin; many nieces and nephews and special friend, Gordon Robison.
