Douglas Lamb

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Lamb, Douglas, age 97, of Bloomington, MN, passed away Feb. 23, 2010. Preceded in death by parents John and Olame, wife, Alice; son, David; and eight brothers and sisters. Survived by daughters, Janet (Gary); Sandra-Faith (Carroll); Diane (Leonard); Barbara; Elizabeth (David); Deborah (Doug); and Michelle (Steve); 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and his dear companion Vy Peterson. Born in Minneapolis in 1913, his decades-long love of golf began as he first caddied at the age of 10 at Theodore Wirth Gold Course. He often reminisced about the challenges of putting on its greens made of packed sand. Golf would become such a passion that one could still find him playing three days per week, even into his nineties and after having lost the sight in one eye and having had one knee replaced. Doug met and married Alice Mansour in 1936 and entered in to the printing business where he carved out a lifelong career, first setting type on a Linotype machine and ending the latter portion of his career supervising operations at printing companies. His hobby and work paled in comparison to the delight he felt with the eight children he and Alice brought in to the world, the grandchildren and great-grandchildren that came as a result, and the friends who surrounded them all their lives. Their love of God and their church community at St. Bonaventure in Bloomington sustained them through life’s hardships and triumphs, and was always a place viewed as an anchor in life. As a man who sprang forth from humble beginnings and modest means, Doug was deservedly proud of his accomplishments investing in the stock market and demonstrating to the entire family what one can achieve with hard work, perseverance and what he described as “accumulating a lot of nickels and dimes over many, many years.” Visitation Friday, 2/26/10, from 5pm-8pm, at Gill Bros Chapel, 9947 Lyndale Ave S, Bloomington. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, 2/27/10 at 11am, with reviewal one hour prior, at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, 901 East 90th St. Bloomington, with interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
